June 3rd marks the first official World Bicycle Day. It is an official United Nations day of awareness about the multiple societal benefits of using the bicycle for transport and leisure. The campaign to create a World Bicycle Day was a goal of the World Cycling Alliance and the European Cyclists’ Federation. The UN has set out 4 goals which you can read more about here.
We are very passionate about cycling here at Big Bobble Hats so some of the Big Bobble Hats team will be tackling the Granfondo Stelvio Santini on the 3rd June along with staff from the UCI & Go Pro.
Stelvio is one of the most brutal yet beautiful climbs in the world: it echoes with the feats of Fausto Coppi, Marco Pantani and many more. The team will be taking on the long route - which is 151.3 km! You can see the route below:
The team will be riding in aid of World Bicycle Relief. This is a non-governmental organisation. Their mission is to produce and distribute very solid bikes (Buffalo Bikes) in Africa, South America and South-east Asia, with the aim is to provide these populations with easier access to education, health services and economic opportunities thanks to the power of bicycles.
